Research shows that summer reading is just as effective, if not more, as summer school, alleviating the achievement gap that often occurs in the summer. This supports ECA’s firm belief in the importance of developing a life-long interest in reading. The benefits of becoming an active, fluent reader include greater success in school through improved literacy, development of higher-order thinking skills, and the habit of connecting one’s life experiences to the experiences of others.
All students and families will receive instructions in the next 3 weeks about the required summer reading program. Be sure to read the instructions carefully. The requirements will be posted on the ECA website under School Life / Documents, Forms & Resources. All ECA students are expected to read over the summer.
