Research has shown that summer reading is just as effective, if not more so, as summer school, alleviating the achievement gap that often occurs in the summer. This supports ECA’s firm belief in the importance of developing a life-long interest in reading in our students. The benefits of becoming an active, fluent reader include greater success in school through improved literacy, development of higher-order thinking skills, and the habit of connecting one’s life experiences to the experiences of others.
All students and families will receive instructions no later than this week about the required summer reading program. Be sure to read the instructions carefully. The requirements will also be posted on the ECA website under Documents, Forms & Resources. All ECA students are expected to read over the summer.
