Praise and prayer

Praise

  • For the two new members who have recently joined our ECA Board, Carlos Páez and Lauren Becker. Carlos is a missionary with JUCUM whose eldest son graduated from ECA in 2016, with two other children now in MS and HS. Lauren is a missionary with Resourcing Christian Education, and has served here in Colombia for almost 7 years. Lauren has three children at ECA, and her husband is an ECA HS Bible/PE teacher.

  • For the T4:8 HS students who led the 7th & 8th grade retreat last week, and for the connections that were made between these HS students and the MS students. Pray that the 7th and 8th graders would internalize and make real life changes based on the lessons learned at the retreat. We also thank the Lord that the broken-glass accident was minor.
  • For the 29 parents who came to the PTF Parent Rep planning meeting, and special thanks to the parent representatives who invest so much time helping the school and families work together better.
  • For Missions Week earlier this month. All students participated and learned about the Muslim world and the different ways to reach them with the gospel and support those who have been called to do so. Kelly Roberto and Cherie Green were here all week teaching our students about the five pillars of Islam. Students also learned about five different Muslim countries through videos, activities, and guest speakers.
  • For Good Neighbor Day, a special day when we remembered that we should take care of our own hearts and those of others. Under the leadership of our 12th graders, we talked about and reflected on the Golden Rule, which the Lord left us in His Word (Matthew 7:12) to teach us how He expects us to treat others. Some of the day’s activities were:
  • For the Canadian team’s annual visit in early February. We are thankful for the 10 HS seniors from Alberta who left snowy Canada to invest in our ministries here in Bogotá. They inspire us as they serve in our ECA-related ministries like schools, orphanages, daycare centers, and retirement centers.
  • For the five staff members who announced their engagements this year – so rare to be happening almost all around the same time! The four couples are:
    • Zach Dalton (counselor) & Rosario Amaya have been engaged since August and their wedding is in March.

    • Allison Conrad (HS English teacher) & David Chaparro are excited to announce their engagement. They feel very blessed to start this new stage of their lives and look forward to their June wedding.

    • Hannah Anderson (3rd grade teacher) & Diego Díaz met at a conference on evangelism and got engaged on February 16. They are getting married this summer.

    • Mark Rogers (database administrator) & Olivia Calandro (1st/2nd combo teacher) are excited and thankful for what God is doing in this season, and for the ECA community’s love and prayers. Their wedding is in Texas in June.

Prayer

  • For the 5th and 6th graders as they leave for a retreat on Fri, Mar 13 at Cabañas Los Guaduales near La Vega. Pray that they would be able to connect with God in a powerful and life-changing way during this short time away from campus.
  • For our 11th and 12th graders as they take the Saber y Presaber tests on Sun, Mar 15, that the Lord would give them wisdom, confidence, and peace, and that they would remember well what they have studied. Pray also for our 5th, 7th, and 9th graders who are taking the Pruebas Avancemos exam in March – see article for more details.
  • For the five ECA mission teams leaving for the field in 4½ weeks! Our HS students will be serving all over Colombia, from the southernmost point in Amazonas to the northernmost place in La Guajira, and including Chocó, Turbaco-Bocachica, and Bogotá. These mission trips require a big investment of time and effort from those leading them, so let’s lift them up to God in prayer. Other prayer targets include 1) finances to cover all the expenses for all members of the teams, 2) wisdom to make good decisions during these last planning stages and during the trip, and 3) health and peace for the 100+ people serving.
  • For the many health issues affecting our community during these last few weeks. Respiratory and digestive struggles are the most common ailments. Ask the Lord to heal those students, staff, and family members who have been affected.
  • For the OBED Christian school convention being hosted at ECA Thu-Sat, Mar 5-7. We expect close to 600 delegates from all over Colombia to be challenged and encouraged with the 60+ workshops/main sessions with excellent qualified presenters. Pray that our ECA team can warmly welcome our fellow educators, many of whom serve in very challenging circumstances with scarce resources. Pray for wisdom as we finish up all the logistical details.
  • Staff Needs for 2020-21 – We continue to pray for the following positions that need to be filled:
    • 1 PK and 2 elementary teachers
    • Secondary math, science, and social studies teachers
    • Learning Center/special education and a PE teacher
    • Recruiting assistant and Director of Development
