We made it to La Guajira and began integrating into the community right away! As we approached the Rancheria Chentico, more than 100 members of the community were seated awaiting our arrival. Some even ran out to the bus saying, “Bienvenidos. Dios los bendiga.”
We were well received by Pastora Jacqueline and Pastor Simon who introduced the team and gave us an opportunity to each say our names, many students expressing how excited they were to be here. Our energy must have rubbed off on them because immediately after that, the Pastor began a time of worship. This was not your usual worship though; all of the children and teenagers ran up to the front singing with a loud voice, dancing and jumping incessantly. We couldn’t help but run in and grab the first kid we could find to worship with in this manner. Would you believe this went on for almost 2 hours? Exhausted, hungry, and starting to sweat, ECA remained determined to show the community we are here at their service.
At the end of this time, we were fed a delicious dinner and began getting our luggage in place to determine where and how to put hammocks up (a much more challenging task when you’re in the dark).
Please pray for:
- Opportunities to show Jesus through our actions. It seems like the community is familiar with the Bible, but we want to be able to show the character of Christ.
- Grace and favor for Ms. Quiñones, Mr. Valbuena, Profe Yoli, and Mr. Skipps when preparing talks on health, sexual education, and nutrition.
The Lord is worthy to be trusted!
