Leticia – Day 3

Sorry we had no signal Sunday evening to send a report in. This is what we would have said:

We had church Sunday morning with the community at the base, but only a few showed up. So we ask you to please pray as we try to build good relationships between our team and those at the base.

Our students were responsible for the whole service: preaching, worship, and Sunday school with the kids.

After Sunday lunch, we had some nice recreational time in one of the river’s little tributaries. Those of us who went ended up having a great mud fight, which was loads of fun!

Monday morning we plan to start painting the playground equipment and putting up a fence around the playground.

We praise the Lord that everyone’s doing fine health-wise. Pray for good cell phone signals for our outgoing reports.

Today we had a fun day, doing lots of things!

  • One group painted playground equipment.
  • Others worked on putting up a fence – it’s almost finished!
  • Others helped with building the house for Pastor Alejandro and his wife Andrea and their two kids – they are the missionaries in charge of the base.
  • Others collected and burned trash.
  • Others helped construct water canals to drain water off the base.
  • Others got an early start and cooked a lunch of sancocho and rice for us over a wood fire!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we plan to continue painting and finish the fence. We will also be leading Vacation Bible School for a group of 50 kids who are coming from other communities.

Also tomorrow, 4 team members (3 students) will head to Leticia with some of the local missionaries to buy some supplies for our last day. While we are there, we plan to take advantage of a better signal and send some pictures!

Wednesday evening the people at the base are preparing an Amazonian party for us, with lots of food from the region. Then they will lead us in a time of worship in the Tucuna language.

Thursday morning we plan to hike back to Leticia rather than go by boat. It’s a 2-hour hike to km 14 where we will meet the bus that will take us the rest of the way.

We have been having devos every day, and each night those who want to, participate in our all-night prayer time from 9pm – 6am. Groups of 3 (2 students and an adult) take turns for 2 hours at a time. It’s totally optional, and about 50% of our ECA students have participated.

Praise: everyone’s in good health!

Some have had little headaches; but that is quite normal here with this weather, and drinking water makes them go away. You can pray with us that they will stop altogether.

Pray that many hearts will be touched by the Holy Spirit as we share from the scriptures during VBS, and during any other opportunities we have to be His ambassadors.

Pray with us that it won’t rain, so we can finish all the projects.
