Amazon 2014 – April 14
The morning call was a little late because they had a hard time getting a signal. Our call was cut off in the middle, but they were able to call back. If there’s no update tomorrow morning, we will try to connect in the p.m. while they are in Leticia. Praises:
  • Everyone continues doing fine health-wise.
  • As of yesterday the medical team has attended over 200 patients in Guanabara, patients from there and the surrounding villages.
  • Yesterday we attended church in the village. One of our teens led Sunday School with a whole bunch of kids in the school building. It was rather hard with the language barrier, but a Ticuna man translated. He doesn’t understand much Spanish, but he understood enough and was great with the kids.
  • Some of our group, especially teens, got to swim in the Amazon – they were all safe and had an awesome time experiencing God’s creation.
  • It has rained the last 2 nights, so we’re not lacking water for cooking and showers. Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow.
  • Saturday morning they sent a baby to the hospital. If our medical team hadn’t been here to recommend that, the baby wouldn’t have been taken there. Last night we heard that the baby is doing well in the hospital.
  • Yesterday 2 of our team members went to help out with a scorpion injury. They met a health officer, and got some insights into the medical situation here when they visited the small clinic and saw what limited resources they have. They also need better basic health education.
Requests:
  • Today is our last full day, and we leave the area after lunch tomorrow. Pray the medical team can take care of most of the health needs today and tomorrow morning. Pray for our medical team to have wisdom and make a difference.
  • Pray for team dynamics among us – for good interactions and communication as we are in the last half of our time here.
  • Pray for the general impact we have in the village – there are many cultural and language complexities. Pray that our serving them in children’s ministry and with the medical team will give them a deeper sense of the love of Christ. Pray that our interactions with them will leave a fragrance of the Lord Jesus, and that their memories of our time together will be that we truly care about them.
  • Pray for electricity for the Jesus film tonight. The electricity went out late afternoon yesterday and we used a generator in the kitchen for light to cook and eat. Of course the refrigerator in the kitchen has no power at the moment. They say the electricity generally comes back on midday of the next day.
Again, thank you for upholding everyone there in prayer. May the Lord guide you in praying creatively for their needs.
