Our group woke up to a thunderstorm and a flood in the boys’ bedroom. The team’s computer, nice camera, and speaker, as well as 2 Bibles and a passport, all got soaked. But God is good even (and especially) on the hard days. So we left those things to dry and boarded a boat to the YWAM/Jucum base in Ronda. We are really in the heart of the jungle here! It’s quite beautiful!
First, we got to know the staff of Jucum, many of whom are from Peru or the local Ticuna Tribe. At one point, two men introduced themselves in the Ticuna tongue, a Jucum staff member translated into Spanish, and finally our team members translated into English. What a perfect picture of the Church body working together in unity!
After lunch, our team split into pairs to accompany Jucum staff members to visit families in homes nearby. It was a special time getting to know the locals on their own turf! We all met at a central covered area to present the Parable of the Seeds to a group of young kids, and to play games. They were very friendly and open! After dinner, we had a time of worship with the Jucum staff. We sang songs in Spanish, English, Portuguese, and Ticuna. Paul and Suhyoen even sang us a Korean song! It was a wonderful reminder that our God is the God of ALL nations! We had Communion with Acai juice, which the locals call the “seed of the blood of Jesus” because you have to beat it to release its juices. How convicting and edifying! We also had a time of sharing and encouraging each other!
Tomorrow we will go to a children’s daycare center to teach them about the Parable of the Good Samaritan, after which we will walk back to Leticia through the jungle. Praise God for His providence and attention to details.
Please pray for absolute dryness of the flooded items, that the Gospel will be heard and understood by all we’ve had the privilege of telling, and for our team’s safety tomorrow. Thank you so much!
