A fun play that addresses the importance of friendship, loyalty, and love

For the 8th graders, “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” a comedic drama written by William Shakespeare, was chosen. The play develops around two important characters, Valentine and Proteus, whose friendship is tested through a series of misunderstandings. Nevertheless, through their story they show that friendship is perhaps of greater importance, even above love. These two characters are two lifelong friends whose lives take different paths, until one day they face a difficult decision that involves betrayal. Still, even after going through a situation like that, in the end they are able to recover their friendship. The value of the play resides principally in the way friendship, loyalty, and love are questioned.
